Triumph at the ‘Bauhaus-Galan’: Nigerian Athletes Shine in Stockholm Diamond League

The ‘Bauhaus-Galan’ Wanda Diamond League event took place on Sunday, July 2nd, 2023, at Stockholm Stadion in Sweden. The Diamond League is an annual series of prestigious track and field athletic competitions that consists of fourteen of the best invitational athletics meetings. This series is considered to be in the top tier of World Athletics (formerly known as the IAAF) one-day meeting competitions. The Diamond League was established in 2010 as a replacement for the IAAF Golden League, which had been held annually since 1998.

During the event, Nigerian athlete and current world record holder in the 100-meter hurdles, Oluwatobiloba Ayomide OON (Tobi Amusan), participated in the 100m race and emerged victorious with a time of 12.52 seconds. Sara Lavin of Ireland finished as the runner-up with a time of 12.73 seconds. Another Nigerian athlete, Ese Brume, took part in the Women’s Long Jump category.

The Nigerian community, along with local supporters, cheered on the athletes and proudly waved the Nigerian flag. After her win, Tobi Amusan expressed her gratitude to the Nigerian Embassy in Stockholm for their unwavering support.
